Using Tools

Children are taught to use and maintain hand tools safely. The children are closely supervised at all times when using hand tools, which are securely locked away when not in use.

Using hand tools is an integral part of Forest School and, as children develop their understanding of how to handle tools properly and to treat them with respect, they are able to take on more complex tasks.

We use hand tools to craft different items or to learn the art of whittling, for example. Activities where hand tools are used will be matched to the children's previous experiences and will move at their own pace.

Take a look below at all of the tool rules we introduce to the children.
