Forest School

It is important to us that the children at Beaver Green Primary School have regular access to the outdoors. We recognise that in an urban setting it can be difficult for children to get into the 'big outdoors' to explore, take calculated risks and to play without adults giving the rules for the game. We feel Forest School is one way that we can build our 'Cultural Capital'.

Growing our own...

Since November 2019 we have been developing an on-site Forest School provision so that as many children as possible in our school access at least 6 weeks of Forest School in each academic year. Children from EYFS to Year 6 use our large on-site Forest School.

Children in our Nursery have access to materials and activities which take inspiration from the principles of Forest School and outdoor learning including natural items for loose parts play and invitations to play within our beautiful EYFS outside classrooms.

Through experiencing Forest School our children develop resilience, problem-solving skills, collaboration, speaking and listening as well as promoting and supporting good mental health habits and building self-confidence and self-esteem.

Our Forest School sessions are exclusively run by fully trained, qualified Forest School Leaders. This means they have successfully completed the Level Three Practitioners course and hold the Forest School Leader Qualification.

It is essential that our Forest School remains faithful to the Forest School Principles so that the best possible provision is in place for the children who access this amazing resource.
